Hypnosis, or trance, is a very natural and frequent state for us. We go into trance many times a day.
Similar to daydreaming, we might go into trance when we watch television, go for a drive in the car, walk the dog, go for a run…we do it all the time…it’s perfectly ordinary and completely natural.
A state of deep relaxation, hypnosis is encouraged using guided relaxation where the mind can relax, allowing it to then focus, with enhanced capacity, and respond to thoughts and suggestions that might be useful.
Contrary to some misunderstanding, it is not mind-control! When we are in a trance state we are still in control. We decide whether information or suggestions are useful to us or not: our brains will not accept or allow us to do anything that goes against our own values and will.
Being in a trance is a very relaxing experience – just like our bodies enjoy a nice massage, so too do our minds!
