Map My Mole
What is Map My Mole?
Map My Mole is an advanced mole screening service that uses high-resolution imaging to capture and assess moles, lesions, and pigmentation on your skin. The images are securely reviewed by consultant dermatologists, helping identify any suspicious changes early.
How does the process work?
We’ll capture detailed images of your mole or skin lesion using a specialist medical-grade camera called a dermoscope. This advanced device uses light and magnification to reveal features beneath the skin’s surface that can’t be seen with the naked eye or a standard camera. These high-quality images allow dermatologists to identify any subtle irregularities that may need further investigation or diagnostic testing.
What happens with the images taken?
Once your mole images have been taken, they’ll be securely sent to Map My Mole, our trusted third-party dermatology partner. A consultant dermatologist will review the images and provide a detailed report with their professional opinion. Based on this report, we’ll advise you on the appropriate next steps, if any are required.
When will i get my results?
Your report will be sent to you securely within 48 hours of your appointment, including the dermatologist’s findings and any recommended next steps.
What if i want the mole removed?
If your mole is assessed as benign and shows no cause for concern, we can remove the mole using advanced electrolysis. This procedure is only carried out once a dermatologist has confirmed that the mole is safe to remove. If the report identifies any concerns, we’ll refer you to your GP or a specialist dermatologist for further investigation before any removal takes place.
Will Map My Mole be able to diagnose cancer from the images?
No. It’s important to understand that skin cancer cannot be diagnosed from images alone. A formal diagnosis can only be made through a biopsy, where a small tissue sample is taken under local anaesthetic and examined in a laboratory.
However, the consultant dermatologist’s report can highlight any moles that appear suspicious and may need further investigation, such as a biopsy.
